Cyrus- Gotta love him!
I enjoyed reading this 2nd installment of the Johnson family. The Alpha male character, Cyrus Johnson, Jr. is a complicated man who no one understood, not even his woman, Dani. However, the reader gets to know and understand Cyrus, the overseer of the multimillion dollar Johnson beer empire, as his character unfolds through his turbulent relationship with his wife, Daniella. The reader, right along with Daniella, arrives at the ah-ha moment at the same time. I won't give anything away, but I get his "my way or the highway" mindset. You will too when you read this novel . I recommend it highly, and I look forward to reading the next installment of this African American family .
Super problematic
I’m a fan of her other books but this one was way off the mark. I felt like Dani was an abused woman. The majority of his behavior was unhealthy and never fully explained. The biggest issue for me was when he essentially r*ped her when he was mad. Yet her response was that she was wrong and needed to fix it. I was shocked, especially since the author usually writes such strong women. Avoid this one. There are many others by this author that are great reads.
