Pet Me Safely

This book grew out of numerous requests from parents, teachers, nurses and children who wanted to learn how to be safe around dogs, whether friendly or strangers.


There are about 5 million dog bites in the USA each year that require medical attention.  Children ages 5-9 have the highest rates of injury.  Hands and arms are the most common sites of dog bites.  Most dog bites are preventable.


This book is now used by local dog organizations to reduce the revolving door of dog rescue facilities.  When a dog is adopted, each adopting family receives a cop of this book.  They learn through pictures and words how a dog thinks about the actions of humans.  Families learn how to behave toward the dog in ways that are non-threatening.
