Publisher Description

Co-authors Pip Ballantine and Tee Morris ingeniously reimagine England’s Edwardian Era in Phoenix Rising—a hilarious, rip-roaring steampunk fantasy romp that the voracious fans of New York Times bestseller Gail Carriger will eagerly devour with great relish. In this outrageous, non-stop adventure, Ballantine and Morris introduce us to Agents Books and Braun of the ultra-secret Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences—the most delightful duo of very British evil-bashers since The Avengers, Emma Peel and John Steed. With its malevolent secret societies, earth-shattering conspiracies, breathtaking derring-do, and absolutely wondrous weapons, Phoenix Rising out-Sherlocks Robert Downey, Jr.’s Sherlock Holmes.

Steampunk done right!

This book has so many things going right for it! The authors have created characters that are fun to follow. This book has been written as part of a series and must be read that way. Hints about the characters past are dropped during the course of the book and those hints only made me want to know more. The main characters Braun and Books are the ultimate odd couple and it all works well. The action is great and the book is well paced. Bruan's love of high explosives and Books love of well... books mix to create a logic and passion sandwich that is fun to digest.
One of the biggest highlights of this book is the banter between all of the characters. The sidebar conversations and comments were great to read and were the finishing touch on this masterpiece. Many authors have trouble establishing characters relationships and can't even get close to making banter work the way Morris and Ballantine do. I could "hear" the arguments and picture the characters faces as they happened.
Ballantine and Morris have taken a genre that has not been handled properly and done it right! Well played!
