Pinky Pup and The Empty Elephant

Dixie Willson produced numerous children's books, as well as many short stories and poems. Her best-known children's book is titled "Honey Bear" and contains illustrations of Maginel Wright Barney, sister of Frank Lloyd Wright. "Pinky Pup and The Empty Elephant" was first published in 1922.


Excerpt from Pinky Pup and the Empty Elephant:


"Once - one time - by a gate in a park was a little green wagon with whistles and wheels, where a little fat lady sat by and popped pop-corn. She wore a red hat over one of her eyes and her hair in a twist, and she had a face like an apple and red pretty stockings and ears standing sideways, and she was as kind as you ever saw anyone.


Once - one time - a little, short, plump, cute, snuppyuppy puppy who was white and soft and just the size to cuddle was very, very, very, very, very lone and lonesome. So he went out walking in the park to find himself some company."
