Synapsis

What began with Carrie Furnace and continued in Countryside is concluded with Pittsburgh. My journey documenting life and travels while living in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania draws to a close. Wouldn’t say the best was saved for last - more so a focus on Pittsburgh and the elements which comprise the city. It took awhile for me to develop comfort with my surroundings; the motive for settling in the Pittsburgh region was entirely about love. When that love dissipated, quickly learned either adapt or trouble would come a knocking. Discovered over time to appreciate the uniqueness of the area, embrace the unknown. 7 months living and exploring in the region.

Pittsburgh is a city with a rich industrial history competing against it’s current status as a medical/educational/high tech/cultural wonder. There’s an odd undercurrent (at least to me) where the regions’s mind can’t be made up whether to appreciate and embrace the steel industry past or continue to hold history at arm’s length. The long term effects felt by the people and the landscape from questionable practices by industry has left a sour taste. A breaking away from the past and developing a new core can be understandable, under these circumstances. There should be a balance of sorts - the city will figure this out over time, or not.

There are many diverse sections and places which compose Pittsburgh - Downtown, South Side, North Side, Oakland, Shadyside, The Strip, 3 Sister Bridges, Carson Street bar crawl, Inclines, Station Square, Market Square, to name a few. Some of the mentioned are shown within this eBook; some not mentioned await discovery. A pleasure to photograph and share.
