Worth the read
Killian is a NFL quarterback and meets Rebecca at a party. They have a bit of an insta-love connection, although her insecurities and his temper/game focus is an issue between them.
This was bit of a weird one for me. I thought in the beginning, it would be problematic for me. There was some weird social commentary that I found off putting, but by the 2nd chapter, it had died off. I actually really liked Killian. He was caring and thoughtful with Rebecca. She had insecurities with her “plain Jane” looks and her height. He really put up with way more than I would with trying to get Rebecca to see her beauty.
He was sole minded when it came to winning the game. This made for tense game day rituals and bad behavior when losing, but he was always quick to explain his behavior in advance so she was prepared and apologize.
Where this book went from a 3 star read to a 4 a star read was after the inevitable “problem” that all romance novels have where the couple questions there connection. Killian said something truly awful and hurtful. However, instead of the accident troupe or a half a$$ed apology where the woman folds and forgives him, Rebecca actually suddenly grew a backbone. Was pretty shocking after she came off a little...desperate?...during the course of the novel, but I liked it! He really did the grovel and did it well. Gotta love a good grovel.
