Playing it Safe is book 7 in the Sydney Smoke Rugby series by Amy Andrews and her first M/M book.
I felt this book was well written showed heart, steam and how to navigate the world when you have hidden your true identity but know that it’s time to reveal all!
Maybe a learning experience for many…
Closets tend to be dark and foreboding… Donovan was deep in that closet and determined to use it to protect himself, his family and his career. So, when a “out” gay man get’s close and offers to be a friend and mentor, Donovan allows some light to beam in from Beck… This is a very believable storyline and should be relatable to gay guys who haven’t found their way out of the closet. I liked that this was a story of two mature men, rather than the “coming of age” teens. Some of the real consequences of coming out are glossed over, but the process of mature men with legitimate concerns about consequences should help closeted men, as well as educating friends and family about what closeted gay men are experiencing. Some closeted gay men may never come out, and that’s okay; and others may find the courage to live their truth. Very thoughtful story.

Charming characters, witty prose and heartfelt sexy-times yield an altogether enjoyable romantic rugby romp.
