#1 New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole introduces The Arcana Chronicles, post-apocalyptic tales filled with riveting action, the dark mysticism of Tarot cards, and breathtaking romance.
She could save the world—or destroy it.
Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life—until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, killing everyone she loves, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.
But she can’t do either alone.
With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally trust Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?
Who can Evie trust?
As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side…
In Poison Princess, New York Times bestselling author Kresley Cole introduces a dark and intriguing world, full of unspeakable danger and irresistible romance.
In Louisiana, there's every kind of crazy. There's the crazy of a grandmother locked up in the madhouse. There's the crazy of the seething Cajun boy, Jackson, with bandaged knuckles, a drinking problem, and nightmares. And there's the crazy of 16-year-old Evie, who sees hallucinations that have bloody and all-too-real effects in the real world. In the days before the Flash, a disaster that decimates the planet, Evie is mostly concerned with dodging her boyfriend's plans for her virginity and surviving the last two years of high school. Her visions of writhing vines and a savagely murderous red witch are just something she has to deal with. After the Flash, Evie faces a whole new reality: she's not crazy. The "hallucinations" were true. Adult romance author Cole moves past apocalypse into pure horror as she launches her first series for teens: bracketing Evie's narrative of self-discovery is her chilling encounter with a serial killer who keeps girls and bodies in the basement. For fans of Freddie and Jason, Cole's tarot-themed supernatural thriller will hold a similarly lurid fascination. Ages 14 up.
Unexpected Edge of Seat Thriller
It’s easy to forget this is a young adult novel. Enthralling characters, wildly relatable, apocalyptic mayhem. Definitely worth your time to read. Team Jack!
This book is SO compelling!
Okay, I haven’t read a young adult series in SO long and this one honestly takes the cake! It was THAT good. I literally devoured it in a couple hours, I could not put it down. (I don’t know why I’m surprised I literally love everything Kresley writes)… I cannot wait for book two!
I know what you’re all thinking… is it too early to decide if I’m team Jack or team Death? Right now, I will say I am totally freaking team Jack. I love that Cajun boy and his way with words!! Sigh, he does know how to sweet talk. But I want to shake him sometimes too, so stubborn! And then I have to remind myself that these are teens lol. (I’m sure I’ll have lots of those moments LOL).
I’m curious to see how his and Evie’s relationship/friendship will progress in book 2 and I really can’t wait to find out if Gran is alive and when/if she will make it there!
I’m also extremely curious why the other Arcana voices are quiet when Evie is with Jack too.. ? There is definitely more than meets the eye with him. Also, I am not team Selena whatsoever, I’m hoping that will change though, we shall see! I do really like Matthew and his quirkiness too, I love how instantly him and Evie bonded. Finn… it’s too soon to tell but, I like his funny moments too, I feel like he could be useful and use his levity to help them through what I’m sure will be intense/stressful times. (Hello apocalypse?)
If you love YA (and even if you don’t) the story telling is so good and so complex here, it leaves you wanting more and if you love a post apocalyptic dystopian world than this book/series is for you!
Loved this book!
I couldn’t put it down. I read everything and this tale is rich and fabulous. Better than most books I’ve read in a long time.
