Police Under Fire

This book could not be more timely! With a nation highly divided along political and
racial lines Aubrey Baker's book is powerful, controversial and chock full of statistical
data making it difficult to argue most of his points. He is clearly qualified to speak on these topics not only because of his experience in police, prison, probation and his formal education, but perhaps most importantly because of his being brought up in abject poverty with a clear understanding of what it is like to be raised poor and trying to
find a way out.

Baker is openly and aggressively critical of many of the principal parties to this topic and backs it up with detailed data from undisputed credible sources such as the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the FBI Uniform Crime Report and data from numerous highly
respected universities and national studies.

While I’m sure no one will agree with everything Baker has to say, including me, this is
nonetheless an important book. You clearly cannot solve problems when you have not
appropriately identified the facts bearing on the problem, not just your or anyone else's
opinion or theory. While Baker offers no shortage of opinions he is long on statistical
information and facts that do have bearing on the overwhelming police/racial issues facing our nation.

If you are at all interested in this pressing issue and would like to be able to converse
about it with real information, don't miss this read!
