Playing to relax

Dated but still interesting.
Originally published in 1956, this is not del Rey's best book. The plot is both improbable and believable being about a man lied to and coerced by the authorities. A man powerless within and against his situation (aka the system). Probably more enjoyable for readers who can keep a sense of perspective distance about its aged elements. In its time it would have rated more than three stars.
