Novelist's Biography:
Robert William Chambers (1865-1933) was an American writer and artist best known for his works of supernatural and horror fiction. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, and attended the Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute before studying art at the Art Students League of New York. Chambers worked as an illustrator and magazine writer before publishing his first book of short stories, "In the Quarter" in 1894. He became famous for his 1895 collection of short stories, "The King in Yellow," which is considered a landmark work in the horror and fantasy genres. Chambers went on to write over 90 books, including novels, short story collections, and non-fiction works, and he was also an accomplished illustrator. His later works often focused on society and its mores, including issues of gender and sexuality, and he was known for his sympathetic portrayals of LGBTQ characters. Chambers died in New York City in 1933, at the age of 68.
