His brother's death means he's now in charge of a moody seven year old girl. She's lashing out at the world, but I can handle her. I have to. I need the money to finish my college degree. As long as I can avoid the boss who alternately mocks me and coaxes me to reveal my darkest secrets.

This cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat!
This cliffhanger has me on the edge of my seat! I was so hooked at the beginning of this book because we meet Jane, who has gone through so much in her childhood, and she’s determined to defeat the odds piled against her and not only go to college but make a career and life for herself. Her first step in doing this is taking a live-in nanny position on the other side of the country, and in true damsel fashion, she has a heck of a time getting there. Beau gains custody of his niece after a tragic accident kills his brother and sister-in-law, and it’s quite apparent that they are both hurting fiercely. Struggling to help his niece heal, but also needing to work and not into feelings of any sort, he hires a nanny but is surprised when Jane arrives. As Jane and Beau get to know each other, as well as we see Jane start to bond with Beau’s niece, more and more happens between these two that has me continuing to guess. Beau clearly struggles with more than just the accident, and it leaves so many questions I’m hoping get answered in the next book, and I’m intrigued to see what happens with Jane in regard to her best friend back home. The end of this first book is explosive, and just when I feel we are getting somewhere with these two this epic cliffhanger happens that has me dying for the next installment of this series – it can’t come quick enough!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I was induced to buy this book because it was described as “reminiscent of Jane Eyre”, the great classic by Charlotte Bronte. What an insult to Ms. Bronte. The only thing that saves this book from the trash bin is the heartwarming story of the little girl who so courageously overcomes tragedy in her life. The rest of the book is garbage – depicting a sick relationship of humiliating, degrading, exploitive sex masquerading as a “love story”. No kind, tender, notions here. The author tries to redeem it a bit at the end, but not believable. Nineteen year old Jane needs to get off her knees and find someone her own age who is truly worth loving. Maybe Noah in the story. Then, when she gets to “the 5th thing”, it might actually mean something. Oh well. Not all books are good. As has been said, if writing books were easy, everyone would write them. As for this book, I give it a 1 – generously. I only hope that this review might save someone else the aggravation of having bought it thinking it was a “love story”.
