For over a decade, Dr. Barton has lived as a prisoner of science. Once a brilliant neurologist, he was promised freedom if he lent his mind to a clandestine project that sought to rewrite the human blueprint. But those promises were lies. His captors never intended to let him go. Instead, they've kept him locked away, forcing him to perfect their grotesque experiments, year after year, while dangling the illusion of release.

Now Barton is out of time. His body is betraying him—mutating under the very procedures he once pioneered. His DNA is no longer stable, his humanity slipping away with every day that passes. A cure was promised, but there never was a cure. If he wants to survive, he will have to create one himself.

But escape is nearly impossible. The facility is a labyrinth of sterile corridors, windowless rooms, and guards who never look him in the eye. Cameras track his every move. Even his fellow scientists—the ones who smile politely while questioning his loyalty—would eliminate him in an instant if ordered to. Barton is valuable only so long as he is useful. And usefulness has an expiration date.

When two new patients arrive, the fragile balance tilts. They are different: younger, unprepared, more aware than those who came before. Adelle, sharp-eyed and unbroken despite her injuries, begins to sense the truth about the horrors unfolding around her. To her, Barton is a monster in a white coat, the surgeon who injects strange serums and whispers cold reassurances while pain tears through her veins. Yet there is something about him she cannot dismiss—an unease that doesn't match the stories whispered about the "alien doctor."

Hunted by the very people who once relied on his genius, Barton is cornered. If he fails, the last chance for survival dies with him. If he succeeds, the cost will be measured in human lives. The walls are closing in, the experiments are accelerating, and every choice is bloodier than the last.

thrilling twists!

This story had me guessing for most of it. I found it to be an easy read; I was easily captivated by the doctor's situation and felt a real compassion for him. I was glad to see it had a happy ending, especially with the amnesia patients.

I recommend this book to anyone who reads mysteries and thrillers--TO EVERYONE!

Thanks!
