Not sure how I feel…SPOILERS
this book was failry good, but I found myself skipping a lot of the dialogue that occured with other characters. That is one thing that I didn’t like. I would have liked the book to focus on the main characters more, but it spends a good amount of time jumpint into the thoughts and lives of other characters. A lot of characters were introduced quickly and I felt a bit too bombarded. Some things also were not explained right about the culture of the “Pure Ones.” They appear to be like vampires in almost all aspects, except some have specific abilities and they can’t have sex. If they do end up having sex with anyone other than their future fated mate, they turn into vampires, who are evil. They are also a matriarchal society, even though their queen seems kind of powerless. In regards to the main characters, Rain and Valerious, they are both about 2000 years old but they don’t meet until 10 years prior to the present tense in the book. Rain is a healer, which means she is one of the few that can freely have sex, for 30 days stragith every ten years. She chooses a consort and spends 30 days having sex and gaining energy, almost like a succubus. She takes all this “nourishment” in order to continue on with her healing abilities, but she can never mate herself. Valerious is a tortued soul. I did like his chracter, but sometimes I felt like Rain was not as gentle with him as she should have been. Overall a good readk, some typos, not sure I want to continue with the next book as I found myself having to reread sentences and try to figure out the world based on minimal informaiton.
Great Book
Looking forward to the reading the other books in this series. It was hard to follow all the characters in the beginning but totally worth persevering. I could feel the struggles the Protector and Healer felt. Worth reading!
