Quinn's Gambit

With unrequited love as an excuse, Quinn turns to philandering. Every week, he pops up on the tabloids with a new partner. Michelle does everything within her power to make him snap out of his downward spiral, but he resists her fiercely. A few days after Alexander's first birthday, Michelle and Sam get into an accident that claims both their lives, leaving Alexander in Quinn's care. Devastated, Alex gets wind of the news and asks Carl to come with her but he refuses, saying he has a major gig that will introduce him to the world. They have a fight about it and break up.

Grief-stricken, Alex comes back to town to attend the funeral. There, she meets Quinn, who looks hotter than he did the last time she saw him. However, that's not her first priority. After attending Michelle and Sam's will reading, Quinn and Alex discover that their friends wanted them to take care of Alexander in the event of an accident. Having nothing else to do and nowhere else to go, Alex decides she'll stay in Michelle and Sam's house to take care of Alexander, but Quinn will have none of that.

He decides that his nephew must stay with him in his mansion. Judging from the number of women strolling in and out of Quinn's mansion, Alex refuses to let baby Alex live with Quinn. Over time, he changes his ways. Michelle and Sam's lawyer, Sarah, gets involved, saying that Quinn and Alex will have to stick together to raise the child or baby Alex will be taken away from both of them and to a foster home.

That seems to make the two adults think. They put their hatred for each other aside temporarily so they can raise baby Alex together. Alex moves into Quinn's mansion because it's more spacious and they don't have to see each other each time they step out of their rooms. Feelings start to rise again, but Alex knows better than to act on her feelings towards Quinn. Quinn has had enough of the back and forth between Alex and himself, so he finds himself a girlfriend, Steph, who Alex thinks is a gold-digger, an opinion which gives rise to conflict.
