What is Jesus worth to you?
It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...
But who do you know who lives like that? Do you?
In Radical, David Platt challenges you to consider with an open heart how we have manipulated the gospel to fit our cultural preferences. He shows what Jesus actually said about being his disciple--then invites you to believe and obey what you have heard. And he tells the dramatic story of what is happening as a "successful" suburban church decides to get serious about the gospel according to Jesus.
Finally, he urges you to join in The Radical Experiment -- a one-year journey in authentic discipleship that will transform how you live in a world that desperately needs the Good News Jesus came to bring.
Customer Reviews
Do not read!
Do not read if you enjoy your life in the rut of this American life and want to continue living a mediocre "christian" life. For me this book has completely changed my view of the world around me in the light of the gospel. I want more from my study and devotional life, I want more from my church and missions, I want more Jesus!!
This book is well written and an easy read in the sense of context an writing style. But the content is convicting and challenging to your spiritual life.
Again do not read, if you don't want to grow and move out of the trappings of this world.
Amazing book.
Radical is a phenomenal book. Challenging to the core, David Platt essentially argues that if Christians don't actually live like Christ, then they're not so much Christians as mere mystics. Jesus commended his followers to live the poor, serve the needy, avoid riches, and take the Gospel to the lost. Platt challenges the reader to live like Jesus in all these areas and more.
Drags...But
I'm finished with half of the book and I must admit that while it started fast, it is starting to get very repetitive and dragging. I'm a 27 year old male and love the idea of being a radical Christian, but the book keeps pushing the same stories and just rephrasing the same chapters. I purchased this from the sample as it was a great beginning and I read the first 100 pages straight through until now. Hopefully I can finish it. I have an idea of what the next half will be about. If I dont update this review in a week, it means that I didn't make it.
UPDATE:
Got it finished, did much better at the ending as well as beginning. The middle did however drag. But it finished just as strong as it started.
