With the February 29, 2012 birth of Raspberry Pi, the world was gobsmacked that a computer the size of a business card could rival the power of a small desktop computer. The Raspberry Pi is not a tablet computer or a crippled embedded computer running a crippled operating system but actually runs a complete Linux operating system. The same operating system that you might run on any desktop PC. All the normal hardware and software drivers that you have come to expect from any Linux desktop PC are also available on the Raspberry Pi. This means that all the Linux programs that you have come to use and love can also be run on the Raspberry Pi. All the development tools that you already use on Linux can also be used on the Raspberry Pi. The performance, low cost and desktop capabilities help to further democratize the PC computing environment and make possible functionality that could have never been realized previously.
