Raw and Real
I usually don’t leave reviews, but I simply must for this book. I think this is one of the most realistic narrations I have come across in the whole romantic genre. She doesn’t talk on and on about how big and beautiful and amazing her male counterpart is. He isn’t a billionaire, he doesn’t do everything perfectly, he isn’t that fantasy male figure that plagues the whole genre. He is real.
What’s more… she is very real! Carly is confused most of the book and struggles with a trauma. She reads like a real person trying to make sense of this world the way an intelligent and thoughtful person might. The author adds much to her by using beautiful illustrious language that is keen and very insightful. I am in awe of how this book was written. Excellent work by Eagar and I hope to see the genre as a whole take more after this because this is what real romance looks like. It should be this moving and it should be this kind of healing for men and women. It should be represented more accurately to our true human experience. It should be messy but ultimately rewarding. Well done!
