The title of the novel is after the protagonist, Yuri Zhivago. He happens to be a physician and poet.



The story of the novel is set between the Russian Revolution and the Civil War.



When the book was about to be published in Russia, the government in the USSAR did not allow it to be published because the book presents independent minded stance on the Russian Revolution.
