Third-person narrative with a dual-angle perspective. Holiday novella: 150 - 200 pages.
Do nice guys always finish last? Cole planned a wonderful holiday vacation for him and his boyfriend only to be left - dumped - at the airport when said boyfriend's ex shows up with a dramatic apology and marriage proposal. Now Cole is alone for the holidays in an apartment that holds no holiday joy. Enter Owen, local pub owner. He's seen Cole come into his pub on many occasions, seen Cole's unwavering and selflessly kind spirit. Now he sees a broken-hearted man and, for some reason, is compelled to "fix" him. Both lead males are great characters with plenty of positive attributes. There are minimal secondary characters. While the compatibility is obvious from the start, the chemistry is a slow and natural progression. Neither man is in a place to rush things and they are smart enough to enter into the friendship with open eyes. The dialogue and interactions are mostly believable. The plot is good and the flow is great. There are a few small conflicts along the way, but they are resolved in a timely manner. Predictability is low. The conclusion was not as satisfying as I'd hoped, it felt unfinished and rushed... too abrupt. I'd have liked to have seen an Epilogue that detailed Owen's father's prognosis as well as the guys meeting each others' families down the road. Overall, not bad. I just was not a huge fan of it ending like it did.
