Believe it or not?
I'll admit to being a bit of a conspiracy nut, but this one just has too many pieces that workout to an acceptable conclusion. While I spend much of my reading time on fiction, this has opened my eyes to a new genre. I was in the Air Force in 1975-1982, so it's chilling for me now to go back and consider what was going on while I wasn't paying attention. Can we ever expect or government to "come clean"? it seems unlikely. As I read the tales of the cast of players, the names were all very familiar. Maybe Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholas were on to something, maybe we can't handle the truth, wish we were allowed to make that decision however. At the end of the day I felt this read was time well spent.

Good book
Excellent recounting of a historically true story
The United States, after Henry Kissinger began negotiating with the Soviet Union prior to the START talks, agreed to never reveal the truth about the true-to-historical-facts about the sinking of one of America’s fast attack submarines, the USS Scorpion. On the heals of the Pueblo fiasco, the Johnson administration tried to keep all details of the USS Scorpion sinking buried in top secret files (with special need-to-know, no-foreign classifications).
The U.S. was blamed for sinking the Soviet submarine K-129, a ballistic missile sub, northwest of Hawaii — which was blamed on the collision with a U.S. submarine in the Pacific. Kenneth Sewell tells the truth about the sinking of the K-129 — though no information about the truth will ever be pried from the Pentagon’s files via a Freedom of Information lawsuit.
This book tells why the Soviets sank the USS Scorpion — in one of the most chilling recounting of actual history: this book tells one-half of the true story.
If you think that we came close to war in November 1983 with NATO's exercise "Able Archer 83" or in October 1962 with the Cuban missile crisis, you haven't read this book.
