This book is the biography of Alene B. Duerk, a woman born in Ohio who joined the Navy during WWII as a nurse and served on the hospital ship, USS Benevolence, during WWII. Her on-going service in the Navy and as a civilian nurse continued to grow as her education, experience, and responsibilities grew.
