Have you ever wondered what it must be like to live "Underground"? Fifteen thousand Allied airmen, whose planes were shot down by the Germans, were officially rescued by underground forces in Europe during World War II. If the three Americans that I rescued were still alive, as I am myself in 2012, they would tell you exactly the same story that you will find in some of the following pages. I invite you to accompany me on my visit to bygone times of World War II, driving with me in my “verboten” car, during the summer of 1944, on roads that crisscrossed our area to see what I saw, and to share with me some intense moments of suspense. I still wonder why, on some occasions, I remained alive to tell you my story, the story of a young man who was labeled a “terrorist” by the Germans.
