Publisher Description
She's used to doing all the rescuing. But love changes everything.
Hailey Jensen is in the rescue business--animal rescue--and more than willing to risk life and limb for fowl or fauna. Just when life couldn't get better, her world crumbles. Her identical twin has cancer, and her marine rescue is failing before it even gets started. Lacking coping skills, she takes refuge behind sarcasm and solitude.
But, thanks to Dr. Rainer Hartmann, her sister's friend and a man who mistakes overbearing control for helping, she finds herself on the opposite end of the control stick. A wildly independent woman, Hailey fights with the determination of a bulldog as Rainer struggles to drag her out of despair...and into his arms.

Pretty ok
I wanted to like this book a little more, but I had a few problems with the story, such as the "unforgiveable" sins of Hailey. It was a huge mistake, sure....but not unforgiveable. I thought the emphasis on this huge folly was leading to adultery or assault or something...but it wasn't. The buildup was too big for the actual event...however, I guess the biggest issue between Heidi and Hailey was really abandonment over losing money, the fiance, etc...
Rainer and Heidi's characters were fairly well-developed and likeable, but I struggled in connecting to them. There was a lot of backstory or "side roads" created that was never pulled together such as with Hailey and Heidi's mom. She was terrible and pivotal in the twins' continued ill-will towards one another, but the dynamics of that relationship wasnt really fleshed out..her character just kind of disappeared towards the end..
One of my biggest issues was the reunion with the mom. She was a heroin addict who prostituted herself and later walked out of her adolescent son...I dont care if one is a saint, it would not be that easy to forgive and forget within minutes of ones wedding. As awesome, understanding, and forgiving as Rainer's character was it was ridiculously unbelievable, even for his character....however, as a social worker, Most of me wishes that the wounds of the hearts of children and adults were so easily forgiven.
So, I know it seems like I hated this book but I really didn't. It was pretty good, especially for a free read. Mostly, I believe the book wasnt quite as well-developed as it couldve been.
