Paramedics know better than anyone that everything can all go wrong in an instant. When it does, they are the ones there to fix it. Heat stroke and hypothermia, overdoses and car accidents; life is fragile and precious and those who seek to protect it are a vital part of our communities.  


Here, three paramedics share their stories of heartbeats and heartbreaks, lives beginning, lives saved and lives ending before their time. As rescue paramedics and army reservists, they see humanity at its most hopeful and at its most desperate, and all they can do is try to help.
