Shockingly good & very underrated
How do I even begin to describe this one. I guess by admitting that I was extremely skeptical at first. This is my first book by this author so I didn’t know her writing style yet and the book seemed really ambitious to me. There was a lot that she had to not just pull off but pull off well. And boy did she knock it out of the park. I am so glad I took a chance and picked this one up. It was really freaking good.
Definitely a page turner, once I started I was drawn into the world and the characters. I couldn’t put it down because I needed to know what happened next. The way it started was super unique and I loved it. It grasped my attention immediately. You can usually tell if a book is going to be one that’s impossible to put down before you’ve finished it or not within the first line or two and this was for sure one of those books. I loved both characters immediately which isn’t something that always happens with me. And without saying too much because I don’t want to spoil anything but I feel like I need to say that I actually loved the character development and/or changes that occurred it was really awesome. The whole book I was dying to know what had happened to cause the circumstances in the book and what the thoughts were behind the decisions that were made so when we found out I had big expectations and it actually delivered.
The whole book was just awesome. There were sweet moments, sad moments, exhilarating moments, frustrating moments, funny moments, happy moments, shocking moments all the things that you need for a really enjoyable and well rounded book. The world building and portrayal of the I guess more “supernatural” -for lack of a better word- elements of the book were written really well as were the flashbacks and memories. It was really easy to get a feel for the world the characters lived in and understand what made the characters “different” as well as understand their past together in a way that added to the book and them instead of being boring or taking away from the book. So I was really glad about that. In general this was a great read all around that I would definitely recommend to people. I want to read more of them!
