Jessie and Erwin
I absolutely loved Returning to Love! Jessie and Erwin are too stubborn for their own good and have been avoiding each other for 30 years due to a broken engagement. A friend challenges Jessie to accepts 30 days of challenges to have a life. Jessie and Erwin have an intense chemistry yet they are hesitant to reestablish their romantic relationship. This is story is witty, entertaining and heartwarming. I love the small town atmosphere and all the characters that are intertwined throughout the story. I truly enjoyed reading this book.

Thirty Years Wasted … it was their own fault
Thirty Years of Loneliness …. and it was their own fault
It’s not easy describing Jessie and Erwin. Both are 60 and both definitely need to grow up. Thirty years is a long time to be lonely because of pride and stubbornness. Thirty years of pettiness takes away 30 years of happiness. Jessie lets pride overrule her happiness while Erwin’s stubbornness is his achilles heel. They act more like teenagers than adults.
It’s hard to describe this book as it was hard for me to relate to the people. I wanted more depth rather than petty sarcasm. I wanted to feel their loneliness rather than their displaced anger. I wanted to experience their love and remorse. I wanted to see this second chance grow and build.
I love the cover and it drew me to the book. The couple on the cover look lively and happy. Neither looked frail or old. However, that wasn’t the case when I started reading. They seemed old, weak and worn out. They seemed much older than most 60 year old people I know. Why would Erwin need to be in bed when the sun goes down? And I don’t know many 40 year olds that can climb up stairs jumping two at a time. It was things like this that made me question their age. So, physically, they seemed older than 60, but mentally they reminded me of snarky teens.
