Publisher Description

Fifteen-year-old Jaren Haldannon managed to wield the mysterious magic and best the Warwitch. Now he and his friend Iselle must journey to the city of Eidara to rescue King Aldrain Draegondor, a victim of betrayal and dark alliances.

Jaren’s older sister, Morgaine, is horrified at what she has become: a twisted version of the Warwitch, tainted with the metalmagic. She vows to stop the Witch from doing further harm to those she loves.

A prisoner in his own dungeons, King Aldrain is forced to confront his failings. His family is dead, his kingdom lies in tatters and his closest friends are gone. Hopelessness, frustration, and a new danger, one born of shadow magic, threaten to push the king over the brink and plunge him into madness.

The Warwitch plots even after her defeat. She will provide the young Haldannon boy with what he desires—the key to discovering the truth of the metalmagic—and then destroy him when he acts on the knowledge, as she is certain he must.

Loyalties of blood and honor will be tested. Ages-old deceit will be revealed. In the end, who will remain to claim mastery of the metalmagic?

Metalmagic: Revelation is a gripping epic fantasy read!

Metalmagic: Revelation is a gripping epic fantasy read!

The story picks up where it left off in Talisman with Jaren, the elder Valir Ensin Llaw, and Iselle traveling to the city of Eidara where King Aldrain is held prisoner and tortured in the dungeons of his own castle. The trio is able to liberate their king, but find that his mind has been tampered–perhaps poisoned–by the guilt in not having yet avenged the murder of his entire family or by some other dark force.

Jaren’s mysterious talents in wielding the magic without the use of metanduil continues to develop under the guidance of Ensin Llaw who is still perplexed by this ability. But as they travel toward the southern coast of Evarlund Jaren comes into the possession of Ravien Alluminara’s journal; given to him by none other than the Warwitch herself! As he reads the journal and journeys with Ensin Llaw and Iselle to the islands of Sylvarii a greater understanding of the origins of the Valir and metanduil unfold and a hidden truth unveiled; a truth that has the power to destroy a thousand year conspiracy and liberate the people of the six kingdoms of Evarlund.

The world of Metalmagic continues to expand and more vivid, three-dimensional characters introduced. I particularly enjoyed the character of Varas–a member of the Jade Talon Clan and the most feared assassin in the six realms–who ultimately redeems himself of the wicked path he had taken as a result of an unusual encounter Verithael (my favorite character in Talisman). Varas (Aras) embraces the good within him and rises to become Jaren’s protector.

Derek Donais has yet again created a very distinct world that is enjoyable, complex, and vast. It is a gripping and entertaining read that I would recommend to all fans of fantasy.
