Nia Courant is an interstellar lawyer. 

Her uncle, Val Savre, supposedly died in an accident at a science research station on a distant moon. Now he's turned up alive and in trouble. He can't remember where he's been and what he's been doing since the accident. But whatever it was has put him in the crosshairs of the Faxen Union's secret intelligence agency, SECINTAG.

Nia goes home to the terraformed planet Azure to tackle Val's problems, with the help of her new husband. Martan was once an anti-terror agent of SECINTAG, until he realized they were using him for dirty political ends, and he defected. Martan is a very capable protector. Those who need protecting soon include not only Val and Nia, but also Nia's father Edvard, the archbishop of Azure-Tierre, after he denounces the politics of the Faxen Union.  

Even Azure is in danger: it will be the next planet the Faxen Union invades and conquers. Unless something changes everything . . . and the scientific secrets in Val's missing memory may do just that.
