Engaging and Inspiring
Great and fast-moving narrative of one of the most important and complex eras of American history. Metaxas provides a witty and engaging look at some of the key personalities and events that shaped the war for American independence. Importantly, Metaxas illuminates the profound and widely-held religious convictions that animated the American patriots who led the colonies, and the citizens they represented, to stand up for their political and religious liberty even at risk of death. A much needed reminder that rights are inalienable because they are given from God, not governments. And that (quoting John Adams) "our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other." In other words, "Freedom requires Virtue, Virtue requires Faith, and Faith requires Freedom."
