Riding the Cyclone- a great read
This account of growing up is a weave of emotions which can tug at your heart, slap you in the face, and, often, curl your face into a big smile. I hated to see this book end but it's stayed with me, now for months. A great story but even greater writing.

A compelling, tumultuous account, which captures the observations and feelings of a child to an upbringing of abuse, through awakenings and escape of early adulthood. Disturbing, moving, and humorous, it throws one through life's cyclone.
A page turner...
I thoroughly enjoyed Riding the Cyclone. Lauren takes an unvarnished look at a challenging life in an interesting era; the roller coaster analogy is an apt one. A good and intriguing read.
