Genevieve Daylee didn’t expect to be standing in front of a judge on her twenty-seventh birthday. But ever since her life became entangled with a former motorcycle gang, she’s learned not to expect anything but trouble.

Her mother, a woman she once admired and adored, is gone, leaving behind a trail of secrets and lies. She’s living in a tiny apartment above a garage owned by her brother, a man who loathes her very existence. And the father she met beside her mother’s grave is as much of a stranger as Isaiah Reynolds, the broken man with soulless eyes standing beside her in front of the judge.

Isaiah is her protector from the murderer at large in Clifton Forge. Though he’s more like a riven knight in dented armor than a prince on a white stallion. She knows next to nothing about him, other than he works as a mechanic. As of tonight, he’ll be sharing her bathroom.

And, according to the judge, Isaiah is now her husband.

So emotional (spoilers)

I’ve loved DP’s books since I read my 1st one, but after this one, I hate her a little, too. It takes a gift for an author to create characters you dislike initially but grow to love and then mourn.

Draven Slater was introduced in DP’s Jamison Valley series, and this black knight became a white one by saving his daughter-in-law. Fast forward to her Tin Gypsy series, and we meet up with Draven Slater once again.

Now most people believe this book is about Isaiah and Genevieve’s growing relationship from fake to truly married. Me? Draven Slater stole the show. The deeper meaning of the book is about connections and forming ties that bind. Central to that is how DS was the impetuous for Dash and Bryce, Isaiah and Genevieve, Dash and Genevieve, and even Genevieve and Nick. Even though he’d retired from the day-to-day running of the garage, he was prominent in the lives of all who worked there therefore keeping those connections strong as well.

Believe me, I wanted to give this book a 1 star rating. As soon as Isaiah told Genevieve that Draven was dead, this review started writing itself in my head. I was crushed and angry at one of my favorite authors for killing off such an integral character (in my opinion anyway). As I thought on what I’d say after savoring two epilogues (don’t miss the bonus one), I realized how hard it must’ve been for DP to write what she had. After all, she’d created the man who led the Gypsies for so long. She’d been the one to confess his mistakes and crimes. She’d also been the one to turn him into a man most readers wanted to know more personally. As I realized how difficult it must have been for her, I stopped hating her. I simply embraced her talent as a storyteller.

I highly recommend this well written, soulful story

Avid readers all have their favorite authors and let’s admit it...we even want to read their grocery list. We want to know their favorite reads and so on. Well, Author Devney Perry has been that to me since she wrote her first book. It was brand new and the cover and blurb caught my eye and my love affair with her writing began.

Riven Knight is another one of those beloved books for me. It follows Gypsy King and answers questions everyone that read that book had. Those questions are answered in a well spun, multi layered story. It blends the sins of the past with the events of the future and does it flawlessly! All of this takes place while a slow burn romance develops on the back burner of the mysteries. Just when you think you know what happened another well thought out twist takes place. The story really is beautifully written and palpable.

Riven Knight uncovers secrets, heals wounds, binds ties with love and weaves tragedy with tribute. I highly recommend this beautifully written, soulful book.
