This book by Jacob Abbott gives a comprehensive history of the founding of Rome, and of the twins Remus and Romulus that, according to legend, founded the city. Abbott gives wonderful context to the history, lending plenty of insight into the culture of the period and the way in which stories, which later became histories, were told and spread.
