This is one bad boy who’s fit to print. A notorious jock tackles life—and love—after football with a type-A journalist in this sexy standalone from the author of Eye Candy.
“Contemporary romance perfection, with just the right amount of witty banter and stomach-flip romantic moments.”—New York Times bestselling author Lauren Layne
Barrett: As a former pro football star, I’m used to playing the field. After injuries cut my NFL career short, my second act as a broadcaster ended on live television when a hot mic picked up a little verbal . . . indiscretion. But this latest publicity stunt might just land me back on top—much to the chagrin of Catarina Everhart, the prissy, beautiful journalist who’s been assigned to date a bad boy (i.e., me) and write about it. Catarina swears I’ll never touch her, let alone kiss those full lips of hers. Based on our chemistry, I’m not buying it. . . .
Catarina: Barrett Fox seems to be doing everything in his power to make me hate him. The cocky egomaniac is infamous for his bad behavior, and now, thanks to my boss’s harebrained schemes, he’s apparently my problem. As one fake date leads to another, I start to see a different side of Barrett. He’s close with his family. He does volunteer work. And, okay, he kisses like a dream. Am I really dating Barrett Fox? Or is he playing me? Because suddenly I’m risking my reputation—and my heart.

This standalone novel includes an excerpt from another Loveswept title.
Lemmon delivers purely delicious fun in this lighthearted contemporary, the fourth in her True Love series (after Man Candy). After ex-NFL bad boy Barrett Fox loses his sportscasting job for calling a female referee a few unprintable names, he's desperate to get it back. Catarina Everhart, a relationship columnist for a paper in Barrett's home town of Columbus, Ohio, is assigned by her unscrupulous editor to pretend to date Barrett, write dishy pieces about him, and rehabilitate his image while getting lots of clicks that lead to lots of ad dollars. Catarina (amusingly a self-proclaimed writer of "fluff") is incensed by the assignment at first, but she begins to fall for Barrett and the vulnerable side he rarely shows. Barrett is often unpleasant and abrasive in the beginning of the book puffing on a cigar in a no-smoking restaurant and grabbing a restaurant hostess's rear end but Lemmon humanizes him with his shyness around his dyslexia, caring for his wastrel brother and young nephew, and willingness to make genuine apologies. After Catarina's editor betrays them both, driving a sharp wedge through their relationship, they have to decide whether there's more to it than a mutual career opportunity. Readers who stick with Barrett will grow to love him by the end of the story, and Catarina is a feisty heroine who isn't afraid to own up to her feelings. Hot interludes and a Cinderella-worthy ending ensure this story will capture hearts.

The Silver Lining
Bad boy ex-FB player Fox and Journalist Kitty Cat are on an assignment to Fake-date each other for a column. Both are resistant to the idea but the former Bad boy is trying to save his career and she, a brilliant journalist doesn’t want anything to do with him. They eventually date and layers are removed by both to reveal what they both desired all their life. They do fall for each other, but one small column makes him question her motives and he believes the tabloid quirk. She has been duped by her editor and threatens to quit after his temper goes wild. He grovels to get her back and still craving a HEA. Sweet little story that we all have our fears to conquer, but the silver lining is letting go. New author to like.
Rumor Has It is a nice addition to Jessica Lemmon's Real Love series. Written in first person, alternating between Barrett and Catarina, Rumor Has It tells the story of Barrett, a football star turned broadcaster and Catarina, a reporter.
Barrett was a star player for The Ohio State University Buckeye's football team. He went on to a career in the NFL but was injured so he turned to reporting. After losing his temper with a ref during a broadcast he lost his job and now needs to improve his image.
Catarina works for The Columbus Dispatch and writes an online column in the Columbus Community Chat. She's been assigned to "date" Barrett and they each will write a column about their fake dates. Catarina isn't too happy about being stuck with Barrett and they get off to a rocky start.
I really enjoyed this story; it was funny and sexy and you know that Barrett and Catarina are going to end up together because it's a romance. But finding out how they get to the HEA was entertaining; their journey wasn't real smooth. Barrett struggles to write his column but he won't let Catarina help him. Once his secret is revealed it causes a major bump in the road for them.
The sexy time between Barrett and Catarina is hot! The story drug just a bit for me in the beginning but by the end I was very teary eyed and happy that they finally got their HEA.
A review copy was provided by the publisher via NetGalley but this did not influence my opinion or rating of the book.
Rumor Has It is book 4 in the Real Love series but it's the first that I've read.
Catarina is a journalist who has to 'date' The Bad Boy of the NFL, Barrett, for a series of columns for the magazine she works for. Barrett is trying to save his career as a broadcaster after being caught on a hot mic. Catarina is a perfectionist and hates this assignment. Barrett is arrogant and does his best to live up to his nickname.
I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers and fake relationship stories. This book was so funny and once these two succumbed to the insane chemistry between them, there was an intense amount of heat. After reading Rumor Has It, I have to go back and read the first three books in this series!!!!
