It's Naomi Clemons's big day. Her dreamwedding. And she's outta here.
One moment. A chance meeting of gazes through the church window pane with someone familiar who radiates intrigue. Independence. It's the final push Naomi needs to realize...she's boring. A blonde, cookie cutter, well mannered trophy wife-to-be. How can she expect to lead a fulfilling married life when she's never lived?
Special Forces diver Jason Bristow needs a beauty pageant coach. Not for himself—although the tattooed bruiser could definitely use some charm. For his little sister who he has returned to St. Augustine, Florida to raise. When a beautiful southern debutante lands on his doorstep, she awakens a hunger that won't be ignored. If only she wasn't planning on winning back the ex-fiancé she left at the altar…
Despite the potential for ruin, heat continues to build between Naomi and Jason beneath the sultry Florida sunshine, consuming them both. But they're on borrowed time…and it's about to run out.
I am so glad to have Naomi’s story. Jason is a good dominant male character. I want to read Getaway Girl again to piece some details together. Tessa knows how to write 🔥🔥🔥hot steamy characters.
All I have to say…
I think Tessa Bailey is a terrific writer, crafting really believable, complex characters and worlds, and it’s almost immaterial (but so much hotter!!) that her forte is the erotic romance category. I have enjoyed every one of her books I have read - and I thought Getaway Girl (the first in the series), was especially good. I almost read Runaway Girl just to get a peek at some more of Addison and Elijah. In GG I wasn’t all that interested in the impression that I got of Naomi, although I knew her story was pending. I just didn’t think it was a plot direction that would appeal to me. I was so wrong. This novel was SO much! Just such great character development and such a winning inversion of the rich girl, pageant princess trope, so often reduced to “mean girls”. For reasons I can’t exactly pin point, the Bailey characters in RG and this world in particular were so vivid and so appealing and in some ways unexpected, that it truly was a wrench to finish the book and say goodbye. I like all Bailey’s books, so I’ll enjoy whatever comes next - but I really want to know what happens to Birdie. I’m already hoping/suspecting it’s got something to do with Kyle; a younger woman/ older man age difference romance that I’m onboard for - with a few years of life experience for Birdie first. As long as we get some updates on the Getaway and Runaway peeps too. Really enjoyed it! - Lacey Chemise
