Interesting to check
Great story with a TSTL heroine
The mad spiral from college-student normal to vampire hostage and demon prey features mind-bending twists and spins that give you whiplash. The suspense and dramatic tension are nail-biting. The descriptive details paint vivid pictures. The backstory hints throughout are tantalizing. The characters are complex, distinctive and captivating, EXCEPT for the heroine. She, unfortunately, has a complete inability to follow good advice and a knee-jerk aversion to heeding warnings. The result is an ever-compounding quagmire of trouble, and an unceasing merry-go- doing of wailing about how abandoned and helpless she is. It never dawns on her that every attempt to help her is met with her mistrust, refusal to listen, and obstinate insistence on doing things HER way. Readers with a high tolerance for stupidity will not mind. But I did, hence the two star deduction on my otherwise enthusiastic (and voluntary) ARC review. I will read the sequel in hope she learns better.
Amazing
This book is packed with adventure. Helena is bravely faces challenges at every corner after being exposed to the supernatural world. I enjoyed how well developed the characters were written and watching them “grow” with the story.
