“Whether making my heart melt or my head burst into flames, Annabeth Albert draws the reader in and keeps them captivated.” —Gay Book Reviews
The sexy Navy chief and his best friend’s adorkable little brother…
It’s petty, but Naval Chief Derrick Fox wishes he could exact a little revenge on his ex by showing off a rebound fling. His submarine is due to return to its Bremerton, Washington, home base soon and Derrick knows all too well there won't be anyone waiting with a big, showy welcome.
Enter one ill-advised plan…
Arthur Euler is the guy you go to in a pinch—he's excellent at out-of-the-box solutions. It's what the genius music-slash-computer nerd is known for. So when he finds out Derrick needs a favor, he’s happy to help. He can muster the sort of welcome a Naval Chief deserves, no problem at all.
Except it is a problem. A very big problem.
When Arthur’s homecoming welcome is a little too convincing, when a video of their gangplank smooch goes enormously viral, they're caught between a dock and a hard place. Neither of them ever expected a temporary fake relationship to look—or feel—so real. And Arthur certainly never considered he'd be fighting for a very much not-fake forever with a military man.
Carina Adores is home to romantic love stories where LGBTQ+ characters find their happily-ever-afters.

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Albert (Out of Character) kicks off her Shore Leave series with a charming fake dating romance. Naval chief Derrick Fox is ready to be on land after a long deployment with his ex-boyfriend's new boyfriend. He's less excited for the inevitability of watching his ex kiss another man when they dock, until his best friend, Calder Euler, suggests Derrick find someone to wait for him at shore for his own kiss, and to that end Calder suggests his little brother, Arthur. The last time Derrick saw Arthur he was a teenage band geek, but the man waiting for him on the docks has long grown out of his awkward stage and their first kiss, however staged, ignites feelings for them both. Then Arthur's parents arrive earlier than expected to greet Calder and see Derrick with Arthur, prompting questions about their relationship, and a video of their passionate reunion goes viral. Soon their little white lie grows into a fake relationship as Derrick joins the Euler family reunion on Arthur's arm. Neither wants this temporary arrangement to end as Derrick helps Arthur's family see him as a mature adult and Arthur has Derrick dreaming of a committed relationship. Complicated but heartwarming family dynamics round out their sweet romance—and the result is thoroughly entertaining. Agent: Deidre Knight, the Knight Agency.

I should have read the description closer. This is one of those low stakes stories where the only thing keeping the MCs apart is their inability to communicate. The banter is so bland. Couldn’t finish, didn’t care.
More Please!
I fell in love with this story. We are retiring in a couple years to this area in Washington, so it was a joy to read. The characters were authentic. Couple of misty eyed moments, lots of humor and just a great, solid romance story.
