Tough to get into
I have to admit that this is the first 40k title that I have ever found to be easy to put down. This book is tough to get into. If the point was to make the salamanders seem enigmatic and unapproachable then the goal is achieved by making the character development threads difficult to follow. I was looking forward to reading a book that would really give me the feeling of how the salamanders make war but the action during the battles is as difficult to follow as the rest of the book (it is tough to make a battle involving chai swords and explosive projectiles dull but this book has done it). I rate this two stars instead of one star only because the author at least does a passable job of providing the reader with some interesting insight into the chapter's structure and traditions. I will read the rest of the salamanders series because I trust black library to know what they are doing.
