Throughout his engaging, well-researched history, Kurlansky sprinkles witty asides and amusing anecdotes. A piquant blend of the historic, political, commercial, scientific and culinary, the book is sure to entertain as well as educate. Informative, but a little bland...

Salt.
This book is a highly accurate history of salt. However, the episodic method creates a quilt-like patch work instead of a smooth blanket. The last quarter of the book hops all over the place and then ends abruptly. A concluding chapter teasing out trends and lessons is badly needed.
In depth and interesting
Well written and enjoyable to read with excellent descriptions of the past and the important role salt played through the ages.
