Publisher Description

Join the author as she travels back over 2000 years to visit with a miraculous woman in the holy land. Open the door and walk into a world where people are more connected to the land, to nature, and to God. Explore a time where people didn't separate their religious beliefs from their daily lives. Awaken and explore the rituals and the richness in everyday life.

The story follows the life of Samara as she grows up in her Uncle Binyamin's house on the road to Jerusalem after losing her mother when she was just an infant. Her cousin Joshua surreptitiously affords her the opportunity to obtain something few women of that time had; an education. Equipped with knowledge, a strong connection to God and a very inquisitive mind, Samara defies the odds and leads a most extraordinary life; especially for a woman.

In an age when women were subservient to men Samara disregards convention and becomes a strong, independent woman. But this is more than just the story of Samara. This is a modern day parable meant for all WOMEN (and the men who care about them). Even today women still struggle with the tension between their more traditional, child-raising, supportive roles and the modern, liberated, successful, leadership roles that are now permissible.

So, come along with Samara on a profoundly moving, deeply inspiring walk back in time. Partake of this divine mystery and allow yourself to be inducted into the deeper mysteries of who we really are. May the light that shines through Samara illuminate your own life and reveal your own true path. If something deep within you begins to stir honor it. If not just sit back and enjoy the story. Either way, it will take you somewhere you have never been before.

Stunning

This book stirred something inside me. I was drawn in by the connection all of that characters have with nature/god/source. Call it what you will but it had me longing to meditate so I could access that connection. As the store unfolds, and Samara goes through tests, healing and purifications, it gets complicated it is a multilayered story with many symbolic rituals and archetypes which take some effort to decipher. As I'm just finishing this book I'm already thinking that a second reading will offer elucidation and deeper wisdom.
Despite leaving me with many questions (there is a sequel coming) I found the story life affirming and comforting.
For those with an open mind and a willingness to suspend disbelief I would definitely recommend Samara's Story.

An Invocation of the Divine Presence

I found this book to be one of those you read when you have time to relax, perhaps have a glass of wine and just let the story wash over you. There is no need to try and understand. This is a wonder filled story of a surprisingly modern woman as she struggles with her place in the dominant male world. It is like reading a more spiritual, fictional version of Sheryl Sandberg's new book: "Lean In" The story is not a simple linear one, rather so much more. Like a tapestry being woven, it doses not reveal the richness of its landscape until finished. So, you may find the beginning a bit slow, nevertheless do not be discouraged for it is well worth reading to the end. At the end, you may find it leaves you wanting the story to go on and I hear the author is supposedly working on a sequel. It will be well received.
