The 2040s – quantum computing trade show.
James, an IT expert and Blake, a molecular biologist attend the event on behalf of their company, hoping to find a device that would help them meet the expectations of the market. They stumble upon the first general-purpose quantum computer available to the public – cheap and compact, yet offering unparalleled performance. The news of the event and the impressive device quickly spread around the world.
Meet the Ashworths – a family expecting their first-born son. The planned and genetically designed pregnancy results in unforeseen complications. On the same day, the city witnesses a hot pursuit on the streets, which started at James’ and Blake’s company. The vehicle explodes, leaving the driver and passenger with grave injuries.
A couple of years later, we revisit the Ashworths, now preparing for surgery to correct their son's birth defect. The innovative procedure goes well, and everybody seems happy.
What will happen next? Will the cold case of the pursuit be opened once again? Who is Thomas Welden – a contract welder with a particular interest in innovative technologies? Do all these stories have anything more in common than the top innovations at the intersection of science and technology?
