Publisher Description

Designed specifically for an internet-connected iPad, this book has capabilities that ordinary travel books don't even dream about.

The first in a new series of interactive travel guides, exclusive to iBooks, Jewel of the Left Coast showcases a town that's a hit with visitors and long-term residents alike. Featuring spectacular photography of Santa Monica beach, Pier and Palisades Park.

Take a photographically rich tour of Santa Monica, from the main beach to Palisades Park and the famous Pier, which opened in 1909 and sports a carousel that dates back to the 1920s. Jewel also provides a comprehensive guide to shopping at such retail paradises as Santa Monica Place (aka "The Mall"), Third Street Promenade and Montana Avenue - and you won't want to miss the spa directory. Take a walk on the wild side through the crowds in Venice, or drive up the coast through Malibu to idyllic Zuma Beach - this book will be your savvy guide along the way.

To provide the next best thing to being there, Jewel includes video of Pacific Park, surfers at Venice Pier and the farmer's market; plus full-screen panoramas of Santa Monica beach and Palisades Park, embedded photogalleries of Rodeo Drive, LA Live, Venice Beach and much more besides.

With annotated field trips to the Getty Museum, Beverly Hills, Sunset Strip and downtown LA, detailed guides to shopping and spa services, more than 100 links to restaurant reviews on Yelp, hotel guides by neighborhood (including hotel photo slideshows), and interactive maps, this book is your indispensable guide to Santa Monica and its nearby attractions.

This is the future of eBOOKS. Until now, electronic books have not leveraged digital capabilities to enable and accelerate our knowledge enrichment experience. This is the way ALL eBOOKS need to be done ... fully leveraging panoramic photography, video, audio, GIS and GPS. Most eBOOKS are not much better than paintings on the wall of a cave but this raises the bar so the reader easily become immersed in the topic, learn at an accelerated rate and retain knowledge as if he or she were there. Great job!
