Publisher Description
Saving the dream is a fiction novel which tells the story of
a young woman and her decision to have her baby or give it up
for adoption. The book alternately explores the life that her son
lived with his birth mother and the life he might have lived with
his adoptive mother. Ultimately, it asks readers to consider how
each mothers dream impacts her life, the life of her son and the
lives of other people he meets on his life journey.

Saving the Dream
Cleverly written, this book deals with real issues that face low income and wealthy families. The author used creativity in her writing to show how the worlds of those with vastly different levels of income can overlap at times. She also did a good job of showing how experiences can greatly affect one's view of self and the of world.
This book provides a full picture of how and why certain choices are made and hopefully provides greater understanding and sensitivity between and among persons from different backgrounds/different income levels.
Many of the issues that are dealt with in this book have been studied and reported in research articles that are typically read by academic scholars. So it is very encouraging to see this content in novel format, making it more appealing and accessible to the general public.
My only regret is that there are quite a few typos that make it hard for me to decide whether to recommend the book to undergraduate students that I teach.
Nevertheless, I really appreciate the stories told and the insight that this book provides as I believe it has the ability to increase understanding about the culture of poverty and the culture of wealth among African American families.
