In Scholar, Quintanilla takes us through the journey and the challenges he confronted as a first generation Hispanic American—to go from the playground to wearing the lab coat. His story is one that might have commonality with others but is one that is not commonly shared. In the same way we only see the peak of the floating iceberg, where the majority of it is below the water, this book give insight of the elements at play, but not seen, that have taken Quintanilla to pursue his career(s). In Scholar, Quintanilla also advocates the importance of never giving up on your dream and teaches us that our greatest supporters—many being our current or former teachers—are amazing driving forces that really play a part in our own development as members of society, and teaches us the importance of giving back to our community and showing gratitude. Most of all, Scholar is a book that teaches on the importance of tenacity, perseverance, humanity, discipline, and of sacrifice needed to make a dream into reality.
