Chester publicly identified as Red, and he is incapable of handling these new politics as well as the producer's politics - company, actors, studio.

His identity and his world devolve into reactions. He attempts to cut a deal with HUAC [House Unamerican Activities Committee]; negotiations linger.

After he murders two women, Chester realizes HUAC is unwittingly protecting him from the police investigation….
