Good, but Frustrating
"Secrets of Midnight" is my first Miriam Minger read, and I found it to be an excellent, well-written historical romance.
My only criticism is that there were way too many (Cori's) uncalled-for temper tantrums. Frustrating! I felt sorry for long-suffering Donovan.
Enjoyed it, though and will buy the sequel.
Hated it.
No offense meant to the author, her writing style is great and the characters have sufficient depth. My problem is I hate the main character. (spoilers- don't read if this bothers you) She is very much the shrew they call her throughout the book, horrid to be around for the male character and she never really tries to apologize for her behavior when they get together. The man just accepts her behavior as ok because of what happened to her father. She never once tries in the book to make it work. The man takes massive amounts of punishment from her and continuously comes back for more and feels slighted every time he even slightly gets mad at her for her behavior. I tend to like the cat and mouse game between lovers, but other than her looks I couldn't see what he saw in her at all and would expect if it were real life that he would be miserable with her within weeks. I would detest a woman like that.
Good read
This was a very sweet story. It was hard to put down.
