Sarason Seed was reborn as the child of a crime. From that revelatory beginning, he stumbles forward with a broken moral compass and an unusual sense of belonging to others experiencing the same social isolation.

His innocence and confusion, having survived a mostly loveless childhood, were permanently lost to the challenge of what was good and what was evil. The young Sarason willingly withdrew into a world that was too adult. He learned to navigate the decay of his hometown, challenging the boundaries of right and wrong, love and sex with unrelenting maturity beyond his years.

He embraced the wrong side of the war on drugs and profited greatly from his acute analysis of its underworld participants. His activities drew the attention of school officials and the newly formed narcotics divisions. And yet, he became a legend amongst the oppressed, a Jesus who solved provocation with empathy and a forcefulness that was unforgiving.

Sarason Seed presents both as lovable and despicable, a contradiction that, laid the groundwork for a life that will be wrought with choices no one should have to make. This tale questions whether the young man can navigate the real but unseen forces of the mid-twentieth century that are being forced upon his insular world. Sarason doesn't seek forgiveness but seems to thrive despite the dichotomy of his existence offering no resolution.

Unusual friendships are found nonetheless, even as the young protagonist realizes that nothing he touches in his life is meant to last.
