I’m only afraid of one thing: earthquakes. But those never happen in Los Angeles—except when they do.

I’m also afraid my mom and sister will be deported. Unlike me, they don’t have any papers. Maybe my biggest fear is that my husband—my very estranged husband—will finally give up on me and become my ex-husband. It’s not like I’ve done anything to build up his faith in me these last few years…

Every day I wake up with the same fear—not that I’ll get killed by a perp in the line of duty—that never happens to an LAPD officer—except when it does. My number one worry is that one day a process server will show up on my doorstep with divorce papers.

Then last night, while I was watching my wife anchor the news, the ground shook. I had to put aside the fear of losing my wife…so I could save her.

Cameron and Yesenia

This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I found it to be an interesting read. A good storyline and characters that were realistic and captivating. Cameron Becker is a cop for the LAPD, he’s an honest, hardworking officer who always does the right thing. Yesenia (Jessie) Morales is a career minded Hispanic woman who wants to be an investigative journalist. The two are married but have been separated for 2 years. When she ends up trapped in an elevator because of an earthquake she calls Cam for help. She’s always been his one true love and he wants his wife back. There’s angst, feelings of betrayal, her sisters possible deportation, his mothers indifference to Jessie and the strong feelings of their love that never died. Can they overcome the hurdles before them to get their happy ever after? I enjoyed this book very much.
