Character development
This short story of the Tufa is mostly about Mandalay Harris and the Rev. Chess, their "working relationship" and how two young leaders stay relevant for their constituents. It gives a bit more dimension to both characters, but doesn't reveal anything earthshaking. The Rev still loves Brownwyn, Mandalay is still young and inscrutable, the afterlife is still unknown, but if you hunger for more Cloud County Tufa stories, this is a great snack.
