On Friday morning, Jamie was called to his boss’s office.

“A client has requested your help for the upcoming week.”

“What sort of help?”

“Consultancy. They need someone to review several departments and advise them on running their operations more efficiently.”

“Why me? I don’t know anything about that.”

“The client seems to have faith in you. They have expressively requested that you handle the task. And only you. I did ask if they would also have one of our experts tag along, but they turned down my suggestion.“

“Can I refuse?” Jamie flung out even if he knew it wouldn’t be his best career move.

“Preferably not. We rely on this client. I can order you to go, but it would be better for both of us if you do this voluntarily.”

Jamie had a strong suspicion. “Who’s the client?”

‘Nexora Solutions’

“Right.” Jamie recognised the name and knew who was behind this scheme. The project was a hoax. A complicated way of getting in his pants when all they had to do was ask. It would have been more considerate if they invited him to come to them, and he wouldn’t have hesitated to do so. But by going through his boss, they just showed their true colour, believing they could buy his services as if he was a prostitute and not someone they actually cared about.

Jamie had never felt more insulted. And by forcing his boss’ hand, they were also forcing him to comply without having anything to say in the matter. It showed how little they respected him and his kind. The working class. They were just typical rich men who thought they could buy everything they wanted, including him.
